About Rosie Akerman

Sound wave - Rosie Akerman British Female Voice Actor - Design element

Hi, I’m Rosie!

I’m a professional actor and voiceover artist from London, England.

My voiceover journey began at drama school. Little did I know that after graduating, I would end up making a career out of voiceover, just as much as acting.

I trained at one of the UK’s leading drama schools, the Academy of Live & Recorded Arts (ALRA). Unlike other UK drama schools, ALRA’s BA Acting course offered more than just your classical theatre training. It offered training in recorded media as well. A large part of the course was dedicated towards acting for screen and acting for radio. This covered a variety of modules; acting in TV/Film, TV presenting, radio drama, radio ads and video gaming.

In our second year, a woman who ran a voiceover agency came in to give us a talk on ‘how to be a great voiceover artist’ and ‘how to go about applying to voiceover agents’. She explained that a lot of actors (even the famous ones) do voiceover work, as often the jobs can easily be slotted in and around acting gigs.

At the time, I had no concept of the sheer volume of voiceover work that was out there. Anything from radio ads to radio dramas to even voicing a child’s toy!

About Rosie Akerman Voiceover Artist

It was also at drama school that I discovered my ear for accents. During my time there, I was cast in a role where I had to do an Irish accent. I had never before attempted an Irish accent and I was ready to be put through my paces in absolutely butchering it. To my pleasant surprise, I managed to pick it up fairly easily. I thought, “Wow, if I was able to learn that so easily, I wonder if I can do the same other accents?” And I could!

Since drama school, I have made a career out of lending my voice to hundreds of different projects. I love the variety of the work and the pure enjoyment I get from making my voice do all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Whether it’s working with clients face-to-face in a recording studio or working remotely from my home studio, I absolutely love what I do and couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Voice Over Artist actually do?

Essentially, a voiceover artist uses the power of their voice in a number of ways to either tell a story, market a product or shape a user experience. Voiceover artists spend the majority of their working day in a studio recording scripts. When they’re not in the studio, they can be found prepping their scripts, liaising with directors/producers and on occasion, can be found attending fan events like Comic Con!

Do you provide custom demos/auditions?

Having a home studio enables me to provide a quick, short demo of your script, so that you can be certain that I am the right voice for your project before hiring me. This often comprises of a short sentence or short paragraph, depending on the length of your final script.

How would you describe your voice?

I would describe my natural speaking voice as Standard English with London tones. In other words, quite a neutral British sound. My natural speaking age is late 20s, with a bright, fresh and upbeat tone. What’s more, being a trained actress, I can also perform in a variety of accents, pitches and tones to best suit your project. My playing age ranges from 3yrs old to mid 40s.

What’s your turnaround time?

My turnaround time to get a recorded voiceover to you can be within 24hrs of you getting in touch (depending on the length of the script). I usually offer a couple of different versions of the script (if it’s a short script) and offer two revisions free of charge if you want to give notes and redirect me.

When should I use voiceovers?

Voiceovers can be used for a variety of things. Whether it’s a supermarket till telling us “unidentified item in bagging area” or a character shouting “Man down! Man down! Call for backup!” in a video game, voiceovers are EVERYWHERE in our day to day life. You can use a voiceover to help sell your product or even to assist a product demonstration video. Perhaps you want a voice to narrate a book you’ve written or a documentary you’ve filmed. Choosing a voiceover artist to create a voiceover for you, can have great impact and really heighten a user’s experience.

I need a voice over urgently. Can you help?

Of course! Message me here with relevant details about your project (length of script, purpose of project, where it will be used and how long for) and I’ll get back to you in less than 12hrs!
